Tunnel to Towers Foundation Unveils Home Renovations for Fallen FDNY Lieutenant in Honor of Giving Tuesday

FDNY Lt. Joseph Stach Jr. passed away from 9/11-related cancer in 2018

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is honored to unveil the renovations made to the home of fallen FDNY Lieutenant Joseph Stach Jr. in honor of Giving Tuesday.

Lt. Stach passed away in 2018 from 9/11-related pancreatic cancer.

In the immediate aftermath of 9/11, Stach spent 72 straight hours at Ground Zero searching for survivors and continued to work at the site for weeks to try and bring closure to victims’ families.

After joining the FDNY in 1990, he retired in 2010 after spending 20 years keeping New Yorkers safe.

He left behind his wife JoAnn, and their five children. In 2021, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid off the mortgage on the family’s home for the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and surprised the family with renovations made to the home in honor of Giving Tuesday.

“This has truly been the most incredible experience of my life. To become a member of this incredible family…chosen family. Taken in, protected, and loved by a group of amazing humans is overwhelming. I will be eternally grateful for everything T2T has done for us,” said JoAnn Stach.

Tunnel to Towers gutted the family’s Valley Cottage home and installed new insulation, flooring tile, and appliances. The Foundation also installed new siding and windows.

“Giving Tuesday is a day to pay it forward. There is no better way to usher in the holiday season than to thank and support those who put their lives on the line every day so we can safely celebrate with our loved ones,” said Frank Siller, CEO and Chairman of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.Since 9/11, Tunnel to Towers has been helping America’s heroes by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children and by building custom-designed smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders.
