Tunnel to Towers Foundation Opens Southfield Veteran Village Providing Permanent Homes for Over 90 Veterans
Grand Opening Ceremony took place Wednesday, October 21, 2026
SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN [October 21, 2026] – On Wednesday, October 21, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation celebrated the grand opening of the Southfield Veterans Village, a community that will provide permanent homes and comprehensive support services for more than 90 Michigan veterans.
The former hotel at 25100 Northwestern Highway has been renovated into 92 units of affordable housing designed specifically to help veterans move from homelessness and housing instability toward long-term independence.
The Southfield Veterans Village is more than a place to live. Veterans will have access to the services and resources they need to build stable, independent lives—all under one roof.
On-site services include job training and employment assistance, VA benefits navigation, education assistance, financial counseling, legal advocacy, mental health and PTSD counseling, and addiction recovery services to address the root causes of homelessness.
Together, these services are designed to address the underlying challenges and break the cycle of homelessness and help residents build a path toward lasting stability.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation created its Homeless Veteran Program with a clear mission: to eradicate veteran homelessness nationwide. The Southfield Veterans Village is the latest step in that effort.
General Motors, through GM Cares, has contributed $25,000 toward programs that build opportunities for upskilling and career readiness at the Southfield Veterans Village, supporting the Foundation’s efforts to provide permanent housing and essential services for veterans.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation Homeless Veteran Program
Launched in 2022, Tunnel to Towers has provided housing assistance and supportive services to more than 20,000 veterans nationwide and 10,000 of their children.
The Foundation currently operates Veterans Villages in Memphis, Tennessee, North Charleston, South Carolina, Houston, Texas, and Atlanta, Georgia, while also supporting affiliate veteran housing programs in Riverside and West Los Angeles, California, and Austin, Texas.
Before the end of the year, Tunnel to Towers will open Veterans Villages in Denver, Colorado, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Seven Veterans Villages are currently under construction and are expected to open in 2027.
