Tunnel to Towers Foundation Delivers Mortgage-Free Home in Let Us Do Good Village to United States Marine Corps Sergeant
Home Dedication for the Let Us Do Good Village set for April 23, 2025
LAND O’ LAKES, FLORIDA [April 23, 2025] — On April 23, join the Tunnel to Towers Foundation to welcome USMC Sergeant Matthew Hannon to his new mortgage-free home in the Let Us Do Good Village in Land O’ Lakes, Florida.
Sgt Hannon’s father was a Navy Veteran, and he enlisted at 17 with his parents’ approval. He left for boot camp in 1997 and deployed to the Persian Gulf as part of Operation Southern Watch in 1999.
Everything changed less when America was attacked on September 11th, 2001. Sgt Hannon was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and was woken up to the news that America had been attacked and the Twin Towers had fallen.
His team deployed to Afghanistan, where his unit established forward operating bases for the coming invasion. He returned home in April of 2002 and then served multiple deployments to Iraq in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006.
Years after his military service, doctors discovered a massive brain tumor attributed to toxic exposure during his deployments. He lost his left leg and suffered complete hearing loss on his right side and extended hearing loss on his left due to complications from the disease. He continues to deal with PTSD and chronic regional pain syndrome.
“It’s only with Tunnel to Towers’ help that I’ll be able to live on my own again,” said Sgt Hannon.
Sgt Hannon supports other Veterans and Gold Star families through volunteer work with adaptive sports and his faith, two things he hopes to share with his new neighbors in the Let Us Do Good Village.
Join us on April 23rd as he gets his first look at his new forever home.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation Let Us Do Good Village is a community of homes provided mortgage-free to our nation’s catastrophically injured veterans and first responders, as well as America’s Gold Star and Fallen First Responder families. The entire village is designed to be accessible with wider sidewalks and curbs, making it an ideal community for injured veterans. A state-of-the-art amenity center is under construction with plans to open later this year.
The Tunnel to Towers Smart Home Program builds specially adapted, mortgage-free smart homes or renovates existing homes to help our most catastrophically injured veterans and first responders reclaim their day-to-day independence.
These homes feature zero thresholds, motorized doors, and keyless entry for easier access. The homes’ lights, temperature, security, and sound system can be controlled remotely via a smartphone app or touch screens throughout the house. Wide doors, hallways, and bathrooms are designed for easy navigation.
