Tunnel to Towers Foundation Aids Families of Idaho Firefighters Following Tragedy
Kootenai County Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Frank Harwood and Coeur d’Alene Fire Department Battalion Chief John Morrison
COEUR D’ALENE, IDAHO [July 2, 2025] – The Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced its plans to pay off the mortgages held on the homes of two fallen first responders, Battalion Chief Frank Harwood and Battalion Chief John Morrison.
Both were shot and killed in an ambush attack while fighting a brush fire on June 29, 2025. A third firefighter was also shot and is being treated for serious injuries.
Chief Frank Harwood served with Kootenai County Fire and Rescue for 17 years. He was also a combat engineer with the U.S. Army National Guard. Chief Harwood leaves behind his wife and two children.
Chief John Morrison joined the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department in 1996, serving his community for nearly 29 years.
The Tunnel to Towers Fallen First Responder Home Program pays off the mortgage or provides a mortgage-free home for the families of law enforcement officers and firefighters who are killed in the line of duty, pass away from 9/11-related illnesses, and leave behind young children.
“Every day, our first responders put on that uniform and don’t know if they will return home to their families. Chief Morrison and Chief Harwood answered the call to serve and protect their communities, and they were targeted for doing their jobs. In this time of tragedy, we hope to offer some solace to their families by paying off their mortgages, so that they can grieve with some peace of mind knowing that their greatest bill is taken care of,” said Tunnel to Towers Chairman and CEO, Frank Siller.
