On Friday night, the FDNY Boxing Club squared off against members of the Irish National Police Service at the eighth annual Thrilla in Camilla. In the parking lot of St. Camillus church in Rockaway Beach, NY, 12 bouts of exciting and intense competition occurred.

The Club is composed of active-duty members of the FDNY and EMS, who train on their own time. Established in 1982, FDNY Boxing has spent 40 years raising funds for worthwhile charities through spirited competition. Their motto is, “We will fight anyone, anywhere, anytime, as long as it’s for a good cause.” The FDNY Boxing Club’s willingness to fight against first responder fighters from across the pond on behalf of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation made the event a worthwhile experience for all who participated and attended.
Supporters saw various familiar faces on fight night from the FDNY Boxing Club. James Gennari, a USMC veteran, as well as Sean Dillon, are no strangers to the ring or the Foundation’s mission. Additional fighters from the New York Department of Sanitation and the Massport, Massachusetts Fire Department also participated in the electrifying, family-friendly event.
From the proceeds of this event, a donation of $250,000 was presented to benefit the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s programs.
