United States Army Sergeant • Line of Duty Death: December 12, 2022

On December 12, 2022, United States Army Sergeant Nathan Hillman passed away while in the line of duty.

Hillman was born and raised in Arizona, and lived with his mother and sister. He also had a dog and cat that he grew up with, whom he adored and loved adventuring with. Throughout his childhood, Hillman was active in Cub Scouts, loved martial arts, swords, knives, Pokémon, soccer, football, jogging, swimming and cooking. He also enjoyed riding bikes with his friends and sister, exploring the city. Hillman and his wife, Nichole, met while she was visiting family and have been inseparable ever since.

Motivated by his passion for helping others and the desire to make a difference, Hillman decided to join the United States Army in 2012. He loved being able to help and teach anyone and had a goal to become a Warrant Officer. Throughout his ten-year career, Hillman was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, AirCrewman Wings, Air Assault, Combatives 1 and 2, and became a UAS operator and instructor, as well as conducted a Basic Leadership Course, among many other accomplishments and accolades. While in-office on base in Fort Stewart, Hillman was killed during a homicide. He had been helping other soldiers at the time of his premature death.

Nichole currently resides in Pennsylvania with her two daughters, Lilyan and Aurora. She helps rescue animals and is an animal foster. Additionally, she is a member at her local fire department. She is eternally grateful to Tunnel to Towers for providing her with a mortgage-free home so she can raise and take care of her girls. Finally, Nichole would like others to know that her husband was the most intelligent and caring person she has ever met. He would do anything for anyone and loved to help his fellow soldiers learn and grow. He was known for his saying, “Be Better.” Hillman loved being home with his daughters, playing with them, teaching them how to cook, and spending time outside in the woods with them, teaching them about different trees and plants. He was their hero, and is severely missed.

United States Army Sergeant Nathan Hillman is survived by his loving wife, Nichole, and his daughters, Lilyan and Aurora.
