United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal • Line of Duty Death: July 23, 2009
United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Jeremy Scott Lasher passed away on July 23, 2009 while in the line of duty.
Lasher was born in Hamilton, New York and raised in Oneida, New York. He was an artist in every imaginable aspect. He loved to draw, paint, play instruments, and tinker with used furniture. His impressive creativity translated into becoming a handyman. He learned from his mother and grandfather how to fix things around the house and enjoyed spending time with his mother, painting walls and refinishing and repurposing furniture. Additionally, he had a deep passion for music. He had the gift of being able to pick up a new instrument and learn how to play it just by listening to music. During his free time, Lasher liked to play video games, landscape, spend time outside snowmobiling, fishing, golfing, skateboarding, and rollerblading. Furthermore, Lasher was an empathetic human being. He took time to listen to and be there for others and he took pride in supporting his family. He later was an active member of his community and gave back by joining the Verona Fire Department. Lasher and his wife, Andrea, met after she graduated from high school in 2003. The couple shared an instant connection and had later realized the invisible string connecting them together throughout their childhoods. They were destined to be together.
Lasher had a life-long passion for helping others and giving back to his community. Thus, on October 10, 2006, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He aspired to have a strong and honorable career, care for his wife and unborn child, and do something that made his family proud. He had strong ambitions and was driven to always learn new things. Throughout his career, Lasher had been on two combat tours and received a Purple Heart, among other awards and decorations. In 2009, while deployed in Afghanistan’s Helmand province, Lasher was driving a vehicle that was hit by an IED. He unfortunately passed away from the injuries he sustained.
Andrea and her son, Caden, currently reside in New York. They love to spend time outdoors, snowboarding, hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking, and swimming. Caden, taking after his father, is passionate about music and plays the piano, keyboard, guitar, and trombone. He also loves to play video games, draw, and paint. Andrea enjoys dancing, theater, the arts, refinishing furniture, making household decorations, clothing, and jewelry. She is also actively involved with her community. She is a counselor who works one-on-one with clients and is currently obtaining her degree to become a mental health counselor. In the future, Andrea is excited to begin her own foundation in her husband’s name to give back to families who share similar heartache after losing their loved ones. With the support of Tunnel to Towers, Andrea is able to live with one less weight on her shoulders while she is still caring for and raising her son. Finally, she would like others to know that her husband’s story never stops. Even in his death, they are doing everything possible to honor Lasher and everything he stood for. Lasher was an amazing and honorable husband and father. Andrea honors her husband’s legacy by working daily to create a better life for herself and her son and building a foundation that shows it is possible to overcome hardship.
United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Jeremy Scott Lasher is survived by his loving wife, Andrea, and his beautiful son, Caden.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has provided the Lasher family with a mortgage-free home through the Gold Star Family Home Program.
