Line of Duty Death: August 6, 2009

On August 6th, 2009 United States Marine Corps. Sergeant Jay Michael Hoskins sustained fatal injuries when he encountered an improvised explosive device that detonated during a combat operation in Afghanistan.

Hoskins graduated from North Lamar High School in Paris, Texas in 2003. During this time, Hoskins excelled in football and was even named All Red River Valley as a tight end and linebacker. A year after completing high school, Hoskins enlisted in the U.S. Marines and was immediately deployed to Iraq where he fought in the Battle of Fallujah. In 2005 he was deployed once again to the Tora Bora region of the Afghanistan mountains. Hoskins earned several awards for his service including but not limited to, three sea service deployment ribbons, an Iraqi Campaign medal, a National Defense Service medal, a Global War on Terror Service medal, and a Purple Heart.

U.S. Marine Corps. Sergeant Jay Michael Hoskins is survived by his wife, Chandler, and their two children.
