United States Army Sergeant • Line of Duty Death: January 6, 2024

United States Army Sergeant George Marshall Wright passed away on January 6, 2024, following a courageous battle with service-connected cancer.

Wright grew up as an only child in Enon, Ohio, raised in a proud military family with both of his parents serving in the United States Air Force. His father served as a military policeman while stationed in Germany before transitioning into Civil Service, where he later led contract industrial security efforts prior to his retirement. His mother dedicated 24 years to active duty service, holding a variety of leadership roles throughout her career, including intelligence officer, navigator instructor, and senior positions in operations and technology contracting, ultimately serving at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Growing up in a military household, Wright was shaped by the discipline, adaptability, and sense of purpose that come with a life devoted to service. Inspired by the example set by his parents, Wright felt called to serve in the military himself and longed to experience the same sense of purpose, camaraderie, and dedication they had known while serving their country. During his military service, Wright’s dedication and commitment were recognized through honors including the Army Achievement Medal and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. While serving with the National Security Agency/Central Security Service Texas, George contributed to high-level national security and transnational criminal investigation efforts. His analytical work and dedication to mission excellence helped support major financial crime disruption efforts and reflected his deep commitment to serving others and his country.

Wright met his wife, Kristen, on October 16, 2013, at a small coffee shop in Delta, Colorado, on his birthday. Eager to meet her, he rushed on the way there and was pulled over, though thankfully he did not receive a ticket, a memory that would later become a lighthearted part of their story together. From the very beginning, the two were drawn to one another through their shared faith, similar values, and deep commitment to family. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and meaningful memories alongside their children. Some of their most cherished moments were spent traveling together as a family, including special trips to Walt Disney World Resort and visits to Colorado to spend time with her family. Those experiences brought immense joy to Wright and created lasting memories that his family will forever hold close to their hearts.

Above all else, Wright loved and believed deeply in Jesus, a faith that guided the way he lived his life and cared for others. He was known as an exceptional thinker whose insightfulness, thoughtfulness, and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Wright valued critical thinking, purposeful living, and using both his mind and heart to help those around him. His wisdom, compassion, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire his loved ones forever. Kristen and their children honor Wright’s memory by striving to live with faith in Jesus, think with wisdom, and love others well, just as he did throughout his life.

United States Army Sergeant George Marshall Wright is survived by his devoted wife, Kristen, and their beloved children.
