Line of Duty Death: March 9, 2007

On March 9th, 2007 United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Dennis James Veater was killed in action while conducting combat operations and delivering medical supplies in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq. Veater was scheduled to return home to his family on March 10, 2007.

Veater was born in Virginia and lived in several places as a child due to his father’s career in the Marine Corps. He graduated from Abington Heights High School before continuing his academics at Penn State Scranton. There he studied criminal justice before joining the United States Marine Corps Reserves in May 2005. Upon his enlistment, Veater was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve’s Marine Wing Support Squadron 472, Marine Wing Support Group 47, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, in Wyoming, Pennsylvania.  Veater was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for his bravery.

Veater is remembered for his selflessness, which he exhibited consistently throughout his service, to his very last moment. He was an amazing father, who loved his family, his country, and God above all else.

US Marine Corps Lance Corporal Dennis James Veater is survived by his fiance, Angalene, and their son, Dominick, who was only 14 months old at the time of his fathers passing.
