Champaign Fire Department, Illinois ● Line of Duty Death: April 25th, 2021

On April 25th, 2021, Firefighter Trevor J. Herderhorst lost his battle with esophageal cancer, attributed to his career as a firefighter.

Herderhorst was born in Belleville, Illinois and grew up in Cahokia, Illinois. He graduated from Dupo High School before attending Southern Illinois University Carbondale where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Service Management. Herderhorst started out his career as a firefighter in 2005 with the Cahokia Volunteer Fire Department. In 2014, he began working for the Granite City Fire Department before eventually landing a position as a firefighter for the City of Champaign, Illinois in 2018. Herderhorst had a true passion for being a firefighter. He took pride in being prepared for every situation and took every opportunity to advance his training and learn new skills. 

Herderhorst was a member of the Muddy River F.O.O.L.S. This is a brotherhood of firefighters in the St. Louis area who are committed to preserving the heritage and rich tradition of the fire service. In his spare time, Herderhorst fostered a passion for the game of baseball. He played in his younger days, coached college teams, and eventually became the coach for his son’s little league team. 

Firefighter Trevor Herderhorst is survived by his wife, Tiffany, his son, Chase, and his daughter, Olivia.
