Mesa Fire Department, Arizona ● Line of Duty Death: November 14, 2021

On November 14th, 2021, Mesa Fire Captain Trevor Cowley Madrid lost his battle with synovial sarcoma, a cancer attributed to his career as a firefighter.

Madrid grew up in St. Johns, Arizona and attended elementary through college in Las Vegas, Nevada. Growing up Madrid loved all sports and stayed busy playing baseball, football, and basketball. He met his wife, Angela, at a high school dance, which they both considered to be love at first sight. He began his career working with the Mesa Fire and Medical Department at the age of 22 and was eventually promoted to engineer before becoming a Fire Captain. Madrid proudly served his community as a firefighter for 14 years. After his diagnosis, Madrid made it a point to educate his fellow firefighters on the dangers of work-related cancer, and encouraged other firefighters to get checked and take all precautions to limit their exposures.

In his spare time, Madrid loved to travel and adventure with his family. Madrid recognized that time was precious and limited, and made it a priority to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible and remind them how much he cared for them.

U.S. Fire Captain Trevor Cowley Madrid is survived by his wife, Angela, his daughter, Mila, and his son, Maverick.
