Sean Ian Riley

On December 29th, 2021, Deputy Sheriff Sean Ian Riley of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office suffered fatal gunshot wounds after attempting to assist a motorist on the highway. 

Riley’s family takes comfort in knowing that he lived his life to the fullest. He loved his family and friends deeply, and he died doing what he loved. Deputy Sheriff Riley took great pride in improving and protecting his community, and his desire to make a difference is what motivated him to become a police officer. Those who knew him remember him as humble and selfless, and always willing to help those in need. Riley was a devoted husband and father who loved nothing more than sports, hunting, and making memories with his family. 

Riley’s wife, Leslie, and their children have made it their mission to establish “Riley’s Christmas Tree Farm,” a vision of his that he shared with Leslie shortly before he passed. Their first tree is planted in their backyard in loving memory of Riley.
