San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department, California • Line of Duty Death: July 21, 2023

Firefighter Michael Ramsey of the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department in California died courageously battling job-related prostate cancer on July 21, 2023 at the age of 54.

Ramsey was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and enjoyed surfing and his motorcycle. He began his 33-year career as a firefighter in 1989, volunteering with the Tuolumne County Fire Department. He was promoted to Firefighter 1. He also served as Firefighter 1 for the United States Forest Service and for CAL Fire. In 1996, he joined the San Mateo Consolidated FD where he served faithfully for 26 years. He was an active member of the Wildland Committee, served as a Probationary Mentor and received the Peninsula Council of the Lions Club Valor Award. He served with purpose, dignity and dedication. He was the epitome of a professional firefighter. His community included the citizens of San Mateo, Belmont and Foster City, along with surrounding areas throughout the state.

Ramsey married Sallie and they had three children, Alyssa, Tyson and Juliette. He was a dedicated family man with an enthusiasm for life and for those he loved. He was an amazing human and fought his disease with everything he had. His strength and determination amazed all who knew and loved him.

Firefighter Michael Ramsey is survived by his loving wife, Sallie, his children, Alyssa, Tyson and Juliette, his father, Don, and his brother, Philip.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage of the Ramsey family home through the Fallen First Responder Home Program.
