Wise County Sheriff’s Office, Texas • Line of Duty Death: October 2, 2024

On October 2, 2024, Deputy Lex Allen Love was responding to the scene of a crash. His cruiser struck a concrete barrier in a construction zone. He was unresponsive when deputies arrived at the scene. He was pulled from the cruiser and life-saving measures were performed. He was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Deputy Love was 26 years old and had served the Wise County Sheriff’s Office in Texas as a deputy for six months. He previously served the Decatur Police Department as a patrol officer and the Wise County Sheriff’s Office as a jailer, prior to becoming a peace officer.

Love was born in Decatur, Texas. His law enforcement career included serving the Wise County Sheriff’s Office as a jailer, where he was given the Jailer of the Year award in 2019. As a police officer for the Decatur Police Department, he was given the Newcomer of the Year award in 2024. He returned to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office that year as a Deputy Sheriff and served for six months before his death. He was described as an amazingly kind, young deputy who will be missed by all. The sheriff’s office said he was one of the best law enforcement officers to ever wear the DPD and WCSO badges.

Deputy Lex Allen Love is remembered as a dedicated husband, father, and a friend to all.
