Huntsville Fire Department, Alabama • Line of Duty Death: June 23, 2023
Huntsville Fire Department Driver Kevin Daniel Rose passed away June 23, 2023, after he drowned while saving a child from a rip current.
Rose was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. He had a strong, stable, and loving bond with his family as they spent a lot of quality time together. He participated in the swim team and loved spending time at the lake. Though they attended rival high schools, Rose met his future wife, Page, through mutual friends as a teenager and they were inseparable ever since. They were later married in 1999. After graduating from Grissom High School in 1996, he attended the University of North Alabama.
From a young age, it was clear that Rose had the heart of a servant, going out of his way to protect his peers from bullies and quick to help anyone in need. He was encouraged to become a firefighter by his wife’s family members who were also first responders, resulting in Rose joining the Huntsville Fire Department in 2000. It was also during this time that Rose learned that he would soon become a father. Rose thrived in the environment of the firehouse, enjoying the sense of brotherhood and camaraderie that he shared with his fellow firefighters. Particularly, Rose took comfort in the unspoken, mutual agreement amongst them all that they would give up their lives to protect one another without a second thought, just as he would for any one of them. Rose considered many of his coworkers to be a part of his family. Within the Huntsville Fire Department, he served in several capacities, finally as a driver until retiring for medical reasons. After serving as a public first responder, Rose continued to serve his community by investing his time in youth sports and his church.
Huntsville Fire Department Driver Kevin Daniel Rose is survived by his loving wife Page, and his children.
