Lubbock Police Department SWAT Commander Sgt. Josh Blake Bartlett died in the line of duty on July 15, 2021, while his SWAT team responded to help local police with reports of a barricaded subject with shots being fired.

Shortly after they arrived at the standoff scene, the subject unleashed another barrage of bullets, hitting five law enforcement officers, killing Sgt. Bartlett.

Bartlett, 38, is survived by his wife, Rebecca, and his four sons. The Bartletts also fostered a child who is now grown and acts as guardians for a 15-year old boy who is a friend of their youngest son.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage on the Bartlett family’s home as part of its 2021 Season of Hope initiative.
