McAlester Police Department, Oklahoma • Line of Duty Death: March 20, 2023

Patrolman and former United States Army Reserves Specialist Joseph Lee Barlow passed away on March 20, 2023 as a result of being struck head-on while escorting a funeral procession for a member of his department who had passed away.

Barlow was born and raised in McAlester, Oklahoma by his mother and stepfather alongside his two sisters, Jessica and Rachel. As a child Barlow enjoyed fishing, camping, and playing games with friends such as cops and robbers.

Barlow began his career of service with the United States Army. He enlisted in 2014 because he viewed the military as a gateway to becoming a police officer, which was Barlow’s ultimate goal. He loved the camaraderie and friendship that came along with the service. In 2021 Barlow achieved his dream of becoming a police officer. He loved every aspect of police work, from patrolling the streets to helping his community anyway he could.

Barlow’s wife, Chaise, is currently enrolled in a program to become a registered nurse and enjoys spending time with her son. Chaise plans to become more involved in her community in the near future and join local groups for fallen officers and their surviving families. Chaise has stated that support from the Tunnel to Towers Foundation allowed her to raise her son in the home that she shared with her husband, and is now able to continue her education. Going forward, she is excited to watch her son grow up and instill in him how much his father loved him.

Patrolman and former Army Reserves Specialist Joseph Lee Barlow is survived by his loving wife, Chaise; their son, Hudson; his mother in law, Tina and step father in law, David; his father in law, Joe; his mother, Cindy and step father, Crash; father, Jerry, and step mother, Brenda.
