New York City Police Department • Line of Duty Death: March 25, 2024

On March 25, 2024, NYPD Detective Jonathan Diller was shot and killed during a routine traffic stop.

A Long Island, New York native, Diller joined the NYPD in February 2021 and worked for the community response team in Queens South at the time of his premature passing. Throughout his three years of service, Diller made more than 70 arrests and was awarded with excellent and meritorious police duty on several occasions. In the early evening hours of March 25, 2024, Diller and his partner were performing a routine traffic stop when Diller was shot underneath his bullet-resistant vest by a career criminal. After being shot, Diller still attempted to disarm the suspect with success, upon which his partner returned fire. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital where he passed away. His fellow NYPD brothers later lined up to honor him as he was transferred to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Diller’s posthumous promotion to detective was announced at his funeral service. His new badge number, 110, is a nod to his son’s birthday.

NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller leaves behind his wife, Stephanie, one-year-old son, and many members of his NYPD family.
