San Francisco Fire Department, California • Line of Duty Death: October 7, 2020
Jason Cortez, a firefighter-paramedic with the San Francisco Fire Department, lost his life in the line of duty on October 7, 2020, during a training exercise at the Mission District Training Facility.
Cortez, a 13-year veteran of the department, was a third-generation San Franciscan and the son of a retired San Francisco firefighter.
Cortez leaves behind his wife, Patricia, and two young sons.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid off the family’s mortgage in August of 2021. The Homes for Heroes Foundation generously donated $50,000 to help Tunnel to Towers satisfy the mortgage held on the Cortez family’s Castro Valley home.
