Detective James Kirk suffered a fatal heart attack following a struggle with an armed subject.
Detective Kirk had served in law enforcement in Powell County for 18 years.
Before joining the Stanton Police Department in 2018, Kirk was the Clay City police chief.
He is survived by his wife, Brandy Haddix Kirk, and four daughters.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid off the family’s mortgage in July 2021 in honor of Independence Day.
