Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office
Line of Duty Death: June 6, 2020
Sergeant Damon Gutzwiller was ambushed while pursuing an armed suspect.
The 38-year-old was a 14-year veteran of Santa Cruz Co. Sheriff’s Office.
Sergeant Gutzwiller is survived by his wife Faviola Del Real, and had two children, a son, and a daughter who was born just weeks after her father was killed.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid off the family’s mortgage in July 2021 in honor of Independence Day.
I truly do not have the words to say thank you. Nobody wants to be in this position…but this has alleviated some stress in trying to figure out how to raise two small children and also manage a full time job at night. – Faviola Del Real, widow of Sgt. Damon Gutzwiller.
