Saint Johns County Sheriff’s Office, Florida • Line of Duty Death: December 14, 2020

On December 14, 2020, Deputy Sheriff Coby Seckinger suffered a fatal heart attack when he returned to his home after responding to an Amber Alert and conducting a canine track.

Seckinger was born to a close knit military family who moved all around the country, finally settling in Jacksonville, Florida. Seckinger loved comics and the culture surrounding it his whole life. Seckinger had a passion for serving and protecting and intended to become a Navy Seal, but was unable due to a seizure condition, instead deciding on a career in law enforcement.

Seckinger joined the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office in 2004 and served for 16 years. Seckinger’s goal was to serve with honor and protect the citizens in his community. Seckinger received the Life Saving Award multiple times,  along with the Meritorious service award, Combat medal, Unit award, Sheriff’s Commendation, and Rookie of the year.

Seckinger was selfless and had endless compassion for others, and his family strives to keep his legacy alive each day through service and kindness.

Deputy Sheriff Seckinger is survived by his wife, Lauren, his mother, Bridget, his father, Lynn, his brother, Scott, and his daughter, Mallory.
