Harnett County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina • Line of Duty Death: February 6, 2024.

Deputy Sheriff Christopher Shayne Johnson of the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office in Lillington, North Carolina, was involved in a three vehicle collision on February 6, 2024. His patrol car was hit by a semi-truck, which caused the patrol car to slam into another vehicle on the road. Deputy Johnson died at the scene. He was 51 years old.

Johnson grew up in Sampson County, North Carolina and was raised by his parents, Don and Lynda, along with his brother, Michael. He began his law enforcement career with the Clinton Police Department, followed by the Dunn Police Department, where he served for nine years. He then joined the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, where he served faithfully for 16 years. His last assignment was that of Deputy Sheriff for the Harnett County Sheriff’s office for 16 months. He had an additional role as School Resource Officer for the Highland Middle School. He was so loved by the children and was their mentor and protector. He consistently went above and beyond and was a true public servant. He will be greatly missed by the community, the children of Highland Middle School and his fellow law enforcement family.

Deputy Christopher Johnson is survived by his wife of 27 years, Melanie, and four children, Nicholas, Austin, Brenna and Mallory. He is also survived by his father, Don, brother, Michael, and many loving family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lynda.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage of the Johnson family home through the Fallen First Responder Home Program.
