Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana • Line of Duty Death: January 30, 2026
On January 30, 2026, Deputy Christopher Ohlmeyer was on duty performing an officially assigned funeral motorcade escort in New Orleans, Louisiana, while operating a department-issued motorcycle. While actively controlling traffic, he was struck from the rear by a motor vehicle whose operator failed to stop. He sustained catastrophic injuries from which he was unable to recover. Deputy Ohlmeyer was 41 years old and served in the traffic division with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in Gretna, Louisiana.
Ohlmeyer was born in Metairie, Louisiana. He began his law enforcement career with the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he served for two years. He then joined the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, serving for almost 15 years. He had recently joined the Traffic Division and became a motorman, something he truly loved. He rode for about four months, a very happy time for him. He had a servant’s heart and genuinely cared about his community, wanting to make a difference in people’s lives. He believed in standing up for what was right, protecting those who could not protect themselves, and being there for people during some of the hardest moments of their lives. Helping others wasn’t just something he did; it was who he was. Throughout his career, he received numerous letters of recognition and citizen commendations for his dedication, professionalism, and service. He was highly respected by both his peers and supervisors and was entrusted with training new deputies as a Field Training Officer.
Ohlmeyer met his future wife, Desiree, when they were young and worked together at a neighborhood family restaurant. They became best friends, marrying and having two wonderful children, Gavin and Olivia. His family was the center of his world, and he lived for his children. He loved spending family time together and was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed cooking and listening to Frank Sinatra when he was in the kitchen. They loved family vacations together and watching the children grow up, cheering them on at every milestone. It was the ordinary days spent together that became the most extraordinary memories. To his children, he was their hero, teaching them the importance of hard work, loyalty, and loving your family fiercely.
Deputy Christopher Ohlmeyer is survived by his loving wife, Desiree, his son, Gavin, his daughter, Olivia, his parents, his siblings, and many other cherished family members.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage on the Ohlmeyer family home through the Fallen First Responder Home Program.
