The famous country singing duo Big & Rich headlined the post-run concert for the annual 2021 Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk NYC on Sunday, September 26.

America’s favorite cowboys are best known for hits “Save A Horse: Ride a Cowboy,” and “8th of November” – the concert took place at the finish line at Vesey St. in lower Manhattan in front of a crowd of over 30,000 participants.

The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk NYC is slightly longer than a standard 5K course, approximately 3.5 miles long, and follows Stephen Siller’s final footsteps on September 11, 2001. The route begins at the entrance of the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, where Siller heard over his radio that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. He drove his truck to the Tunnel, but it was closed for security purposes. It was there that he strapped on his gear and ran on foot through the tunnel to the site of the Twin Towers, where he gave his life while saving others. Participants follow this path, continuing on the streets of Manhattan, before finally finishing at West Street and Murray Street.

Event participants were encouraged to attend the post-run concert in Manhattan at the finish line with food, vendors and other entertainment.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is dedicated to honoring the sacrifice of FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller, who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. For 20 years the Foundation has supported our nation’s first responders, veterans, and their families by providing these heroes and the families they leave behind with mortgage-free homes.
