HOME COMPLETED - OCTOBER 2026

Army Sergeant Major Dan Hendrix was raised in a supportive, happy environment that provided him with a solid foundation based on strong values. After meeting an influential Army recruiter during his senior year of high school, he was inspired to answer the call to serve in the Army, joining in 1993.

Hendrix valued the opportunity to be part of something bigger than himself, the sense of camaraderie, and the challenges that came with each new assignment. Every role pushed him to grow, adapt, and work closely with others toward a common mission. Some of his proudest accomplishments include serving as an Avenger Crewmember, IED Hunter in Iraq, and Army Recruiter, and being a member of the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team.

Hendrix met his wife, Carissa, while both were serving in the Army. She was a dedicated career Soldier.

In May 2012, Hendrix sustained a devastating injury during a parachute training accident that led to the amputation of his left foot. Years later, he was confronted with a second major battle when he was diagnosed with service-connected head and neck cancer. Through treatment, determination, and resilience, he overcame the disease and is proud to be a cancer survivor today.

Hendrix stays active and purpose-driven through a combination of athletics, service, and family. A dedicated member of the wheelchair basketball community, he contributes as a player, recruiter, and coach, helping others discover the opportunities adaptive sports can provide. He also enjoys watching sports, fly fishing, and, above all, making memories with his wife and children.

Describing the support he has received from Tunnel to Towers as truly life-changing, Hendrix is especially thankful that he and his family have gained a trusted network, valuable resources, and a welcoming community that feels like a second family.

The most important lesson that Army Sergeant Major Dan Hendrix hopes to share with others is that life can be challenging, but facing each challenge with a positive attitude and refusing to give up makes all the difference. Perseverance and mindset are what carry you through the toughest moments and help you grow stronger along the way.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has provided Army Sergeant Major Dan Hendrix with a mortgage-free smart home through the Smart Home Program.Â
