In this 25th anniversary year of September 11, 2001, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is embarking on the most comprehensive commemoration in our history.
In tribute to the 343 members of the New York City Fire Department who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11, Tunnel to Towers is delivering 343 mortgage-free homes throughout 2026. Each home represents a life lost, a family honored, and a promise kept. To date, the Foundation has delivered more than half of the promised 343 homes.
One of these mortgage-free homes was delivered to United States Army Staff Sergeant Dennis Duane Hendrickson in the form of a specially-adapted smart home through the Smart Home Program.
Having served in both the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, what SSG Hendrickson treasured most was the lifelong friendships built through years of shared sacrifice. He earned two of the military’s most distinguished recognitions: the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Purple Heart. While serving in Iraq, SSG Hendrickson was injured, leaving him with a cervical fracture, a torn rotator cuff, and a traumatic brain injury.
Today, SSG Hendrickson enjoys camping, concerts, and attending football and baseball games. The Foundation is honored to have provided him with a mortgage-free, specially-adapted smart home.
