City of Hudson Police Department, New York • Line of Duty Death: January 12, 2024

On January 12, 2024, Senior Sergeant Christopher Filli of the City of Hudson Police Department in New York responded to a 911 emergency incident call with CPR performed. Immediately following, he reported that he was not feeling well and had chest discomfort. When he was found unresponsive, fellow officers immediately began lifesaving measures. He was transferred to a local hospital where he was unable to be resuscitated. He had suffered a fatal job-related heart attack at the age of 50.

Filli was the son of Theodore (Ted) and Jacqueline Filli. He attended St. Mary’s Academy, St. Patrick’s Academy in Catskill, and graduated from Hudson High School, upon the closure of both Academies. He then attended Zone 14 Police Academy at Columbia-Green Community College. His law enforcement career began with the Copake Police Department and the Philmont Police Department, before joining the City of Hudson Police Department in 2001. He became a School Resource Officer in September 2005. His exemplary service earned him a promotion to Detective in 2008, where he served in the Juvenile Unit and the Narcotics Unit. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2017 and Senior Sergeant in July 2022. He served the City of Hudson PD for 22 years. He was respected by those who worked beside him and the community he served. His commitment to duty and selfless service left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of working alongside him. He was considered an exceptional officer. Filli also was the owner of Chris Filli & Son Tree Service, another reflection of the hard work and determination he brought to everything he did.

Filli was a devoted father to his six children, Christopher Jr., Abigail, Angelia, Kylie, Leighton, and Nico. His family was the center of his world, and he took tremendous pride in each of his children. Chris married his wife, Megan, in 2018, and together they built a life and family that meant everything to him. He was a loving husband, partner, and Megan’s best friend. Above all that he accomplished, Chris was incredibly proud of the life they had built together. His service will always be remembered, but to the people who loved him most, Chris’s greatest legacy will always be the family he loved, the life he built, and the love he left behind.

Senior Sergeant Christopher Filli is survived by his wife, Megan, his six children, Christopher Jr., Abigail, Angelia, Kylie, Leighton, and Nico, his parents, Ted and Jacqueline Filli, his siblings, Theodore Jr., Brian, Dana, Damon, Brendan, and Kyle, and many other cherished family members and friends.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage on the Filli family home through the Fallen First Responder Home Program.Â
