Court Cousins

Firefighter/Paramedic Court Cousins passed away on July 30, 2024, due to cancer related to his service in the mutual aid response and recovery efforts at the site of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. He fought a long and difficult battle with two cancers, chronic lymphocytic leukemia which transformed into non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He was 53 years old and had served the Syosset Volunteer Fire Department in Long Island, New York for 26 years. 

Cousins was a lifelong resident of Syosset, New York, an attorney, and a prominent community figure. He was Co-President of the North Syosset Civic Association, a PTA Co-President, and a little league baseball coach. To honor his public service, the Town of Oyster Bay proclaimed July 23, 2024 to be “Court Cousins Day,” and presented him with the Key to the Town, just days before his death. He loved serving the people of his community and was dedicated to helping others.  

Cousins married his wife, Karen Vacchio, and together they had a son, Andrew. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed every moment they were together. He was a dedicated participant in little league, coaching the baseball team. He was a devoted family man who was loved and respected by all who knew him. 

Firefighter/Paramedic Court Cousins is survived by his loving wife, Karen Vacchio, his cherished son, Andrew Cousins, and many other family members and friends. 

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage on the Cousins family home through the Fallen First Responder Home Program.
