Bradley Reckling

Detective Bradley Reckling of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office in Pontiac, Michigan, was shot and killed while conducting surveillance on a stolen vehicle in Detroit. Detective Reckling located the vehicle with three occupants and started following it as he coordinated with the other detectives. While he continued surveillance of the vehicle, the driver suddenly stopped, three men exited the car and opened fire on Detective Reckling. He was transported to the hospital where he died from his wounds. He was 30 years old and had served with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office for nine years. 

Born in Clinton Township in 1993, he graduated from Romeo High School in 2012. He joined the Operators Union as a heavy equipment operator, then worked in corrections. Reckling was hired as a law enforcement officer in April 2015. He was honored multiple times by the Sheriff’s Office, including commendations for life saving, meritorious service and professional excellence. He had been assigned to the Rochester Hills substation and then transferred to the Auto Theft Unit. Reckling was deeply loved and respected by his colleagues.  

Reckling married his loving wife, Jacqueline, and together they had four children: three daughters Alayna, Isabella and Scarlett, and one son, Reid, born after his father’s death. Reckling was a dedicated and loving husband and father, and an amazing friend. He was a fisherman, hunter and farmer, who loved his family more than anything. He spent months remodeling his home to give his pregnant wife and three daughters the best place to call home. He had a great sense of humor and would do anything for anyone. 

Detective Bradley Reckling is survived by his wife of 13 years, Jacqueline, his three daughters Alayna, Isabella and Scarlett, his baby boy, Reid, born after his death, his parents, Andrew and Tammy Reckling, his brother, Andrew Reckling, Jr., and many cherished friends and family members.  

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage on the Reckling family home through the Fallen First Responder Home Program.
