North Carolina State Highway Patrol, North Carolina • Line of Duty Death: February 10, 2024

On February 10, 2024, Master Trooper Zach Martin passed away from Ewings Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer. He had fought a very courageous battle with this aggressive disease for over a year. He was 35 years old and had served with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol for over five years at the time of his premature passing.

Martin was born and raised in High Point, North Carolina. He grew up in a loving, large family, being the youngest of four children. He and his siblings enjoyed sports and were usually on a field or court playing ball. His favorite was football, far and above all other sports.

Martin decided from a young age that he wanted a career in law enforcement. His older brother was in the Marines and inspired him to serve others. In 2009, he graduated from Davidson County Community College and began his career as a police officer with the Belhaven Police Department. In 2010, The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Department recruited Martin to join them. He was well respected and named Rookie of the Year. His dream was to become a State Trooper. He graduated from the North Carolina 146th Basic Highway Patrol School in November 2018, fulfilling his dream to be a Trooper. Martin was down to earth, humble, and made friends quickly. He lived with his whole heart and loved unconditionally. If you were his friend, you were considered family. He had a great sense of humor and could make anyone laugh. He loved serving his community and he did it proudly.

Martin and his future wife, Ginny, were introduced to each other by her aunt. They enjoyed being together and were best friends. They married and had two sons: Greyson and Lawson. He loved his family; they enjoyed traveling together and being at the ballfield. He was a wonderful, loving husband and an amazing, dedicated father. His family loved him and considered him a one-of-a-kind man.

Master Trooper Zach Martin is survived by his loving wife, Ginny, and his sons, Greyson and Lawson, and many other cherished family members and friends.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage on the Martin family home through the Fallen First Responder Home Program.Â
