United States Army Specialist • Line of Duty Death: July 28, 2017

United States Army Specialist Nathaniel Guerra Rojas tragically lost his life on July 28, 2017, after a courageous battle with service-connected cancer.

Guerra Rojas was born in California and later relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he lived until enlisting in the United States Army. He shared a close bond with his parents and was fiercely devoted to their well-being and protection. Known for his warm sense of humor, Guerra Rojas had a natural ability to bring light and laughter to those around him, regardless of the circumstances. He chose to serve in the United States Army out of a deep desire to provide his children with opportunities greater than those he experienced growing up. Dedicated and hardworking, he took great pride in his service, as the Army held profound personal significance for him. He sought stability, security, and a dependable career that would allow him to support his family and build a strong foundation for their future, viewing military service as a meaningful path toward creating a better future for those he loved most.

Throughout his service, Guerra Rojas made a lasting impact on those he worked alongside. He was widely known for his sense of humor and ability to bring levity to the workplace, making even the most challenging or routine tasks more enjoyable. His coworkers often spoke of how much they valued his presence—not only for his humor, but for his willingness to help others and ensure everyone understood their responsibilities. Generous with both his time and knowledge, Guerra Rojas was frequently described as someone who would give anything to support those around him. In recognition of his dedicated service, Guerra Rojas was awarded the Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon—honors that reflect his commitment, professionalism, and honorable service to his country.

Guerra Rojas shared a loving and devoted partnership with his wife, Alyssa, and together they built a life centered on family and togetherness. Among their most cherished memories was taking their child on their first family vacation to San Diego, a meaningful milestone and one of their earliest major trips together. Travel became a special part of their life, from that memorable getaway to the many smaller family trips they enjoyed throughout Florida. They often laughed about being married in a small chapel in Las Vegas, a choice that felt perfectly fitting for the city they called home. Over the years, it became a lighthearted and cherished memory that remained a joyful inside joke throughout their marriage.

His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, but most profoundly in the hearts of his family. A devoted husband and father, he led with love, strength, and an unwavering dedication to those closest to him. Through his resilience and determination, he showed his family the importance of persevering, working hard, and continuing to move forward even during life’s most difficult moments. Alyssa will honor his memory by keeping his spirit alive through their children, instilling in them the same resilience, kindness, humor, and strong work ethic that defined his life. Through stories, laughter, and the values that guided his life, his presence will continue to be felt, guiding and inspiring their family for years to come.

United States Army Specialist Nathaniel Guerra Rojas is survived by his devoted wife, Alyssa, and their beloved children.
