United States Air Force Senior Airman Austin Odon Wampler passed away on June 15, 2025, following a courageous battle with service-connected cancer.
Wampler grew up in Santa Clarita, California, as the eldest of four siblings and later became a proud uncle to eleven nieces and nephews. His interest in military service began when a neighbor first introduced him to the idea, which resonated with him and several friends and ultimately inspired them to enlist together. In 2003, at the age of 17, Wampler enlisted in the United States Air Force, marking the beginning of a distinguished military career. During his tenure, he was recognized for his contributions, earning the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one oak leaf cluster and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
After his military service, Wampler continued supporting veterans through his work with the Department of Veterans Affairs and was recognized for 15 years of service. After earning a master’s degree in social work, he served as a clinical psychotherapist for 16 years, providing dedicated, compassionate care to combat veterans and their families. Known for the warmth he brought to every interaction; he formed genuine connections with those around him; many clients shared that his support had a lasting impact on their lives. Even as he faced cancer, which ultimately led to his retirement, he remained resilient and continued to share his kindness, compassion, and appreciation for life with all who knew him.
Wampler met his wife, Jacquelyn, through a longstanding family connection. Their parents attended high school together, and their families remained close friends. They grew up sharing the same hobbies, including trips to the lake and the desert. Together since the summer of 2007, they built nearly 18 years of memories and a life grounded in love, adventure, and family. Wampler was a devoted father to their three children, and much of their family time was spent continuing traditions they had enjoyed from the beginning. Throughout his illness, Wampler fought with remarkable strength for every moment with his family and remained steadfastly by their side.
Wampler leaves a legacy of love, strength, and adventure. Throughout his four-year battle with cancer, he remained committed to embracing life, traveling, and creating meaningful memories with his family. He approached each day with optimism and resilience and was known for his ever-present smile. His adventurous spirit and steady presence are deeply missed by his wife and children. In his honor, his family has placed memorials in several of his favorite locations and remains committed to carrying forward the traditions he cherished through camping, boating, and making lasting memories together. They also attend memorial events for other Gold Star families and will continue to honor his life and legacy.
