United States Marine Corps Sergeant • Line of Duty Death: January 22, 2024
United States Marine Corps Sergeant Brian H. Alvarado tragically lost his life on January 22, 2024, due to service-connected cancer.Â
Raised by his mother and grandmother, Alvarado was an only child. From a young age, his mother encouraged him to stay active and involved in extracurricular activities outside of school. In high school, Alvarado joined the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, an experience that helped shape an early sense of discipline and purpose. In October 1999, Alvarado enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During his time in service, numerous awards and decorations were earned, including the Iraq Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and the Marksman Rifle Badge.
A future with his wife Rocio began while both were working at a call center in Hollywood. What started as a chance meeting soon felt like destiny. Rocio remembers that Alvarado once wrote her a letter and included a picture of himself, and upon reading his words and seeing his photograph, she knew she would one day marry him. A natural sense of humor and love of laughter defined much of that relationship. Among Rocio’s most cherished memories are the times they shared laughter together to the point of tears.
Alvarado leaves behind a legacy of resilience and a deep love of life, shown in the strength and determination with which he faced his illness. Even during the most difficult moments, he remained focused on what mattered most to him. He fought for many years to watch his daughter, Rhianna, grow into a young adult, guiding and supporting her along the way. His deep love for his family anchored him through every challenge, and he faced his illness with extraordinary strength and determination.Â
Known for a generous spirit and a willingness to help others, Alvarado never complained about what was lacking and continued to give back, even while facing personal health challenges. He was especially passionate about supporting veterans experiencing homelessness, a cause that reflected both his compassion and deep sense of service. Today, Rocio and Rhianna carry forward that spirit by continuing to support veterans and individuals experiencing homelessness. They honor his memory by living life to the fullest, guided by the same love, compassion, and laughter that defined his life.
United States Marine Corps Sergeant Brian H. Alvarado is survived by his devoted wife, Rocio, and their beloved daughter, Rhianna.Â
