United States Army Master Sergeant • Line of Duty Death: on January 23, 2025
United States Army Master Sergeant August J. Alombro, Jr. tragically lost his life on January 23, 2025 due to a service-connected heart attack.
Alombro, Jr. grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, surrounded by a large, loving family who filled his childhood with music, good food, and days spent fishing together. Those moments shaped a joyful upbringing and instilled in him a deep appreciation for family, tradition, and togetherness. Inspired by his father, he felt called to serve and enlisted in the military in June 2000. What began as a decision to join the military soon became a calling that would shape the course of his life.
During his military career, Alombro, Jr. distinguished himself through exceptional leadership, humility, and an unwavering commitment to the soldiers he served alongside. A former soldier and friend shared, “He selflessly gave up a very coveted duty assignment that was already his for a former soldier to have an opportunity. He always put his soldiers’ needs above his own.” His service and dedication were recognized through numerous honors, including two Bronze Star Medals, induction into the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara, and the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Award. These achievements reflect not only his professional excellence, but also the deep respect and admiration he earned from those who had the privilege of serving beside him.
Alombro, Jr. met his future wife, Alison, while they were in high school, and the two later reconnected while he was on deployment. Their connection quickly grew into a lasting partnership. Alombro, Jr. loved that Alison was a “Florida girl,” while Alison always knew she would one day marry an Army man. Together they built a life centered on family and adventure. Some of Alison’s most cherished memories include the unforgettable drive from Florida to Alaska after their wedding, playing hide-and-seek with their daughter, and fishing with their son. These memories reflect the deep love that defined their family and the joy they found in the simple moments they shared together.
Today, Alison and their children honor Alombro, Jr.’s legacy by living a life rooted in service to others, just as Alombro, Jr. did. They have chosen to support the Tunnel to Towers Foundation through donations and advocacy, carrying forward the spirit of generosity and commitment that defined his life. Alison shared that he would be incredibly proud of their support of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and expressed deep gratitude for the meaningful support the foundation has provided to their family.
A “never quit” attitude defined the legacy Alombro, Jr. leaves behind, inspiring all who had the privilege of knowing him. He carried this mindset into every part of his life, facing challenges with determination and encouraging those around him to do the same. Above all, family meant everything to him. He often spoke with excitement about the day he would retire and spend more time with Alison and their children, savoring the everyday moments that mattered most. That love for his family and the strength he showed in life remain a lasting part of the legacy he leaves behind.
United States Army Master Sergeant August J. Alombro, Jr. is survived by his devoted wife, Alison, and their beloved children.
