Vernon Bryant Jr.

United States Air Force Major Vernon Bryant Jr., tragically passed away on November 5, 2012, from a service-connected incident.

Bryant, Jr. was raised in a military family, where his mother’s Army service and frequent assignments shaped much of his childhood. During those formative years, he and his sister were supported by their grandparents, whose steady presence helped provide stability. These early experiences in a military family would later influence the path he chose in service to his country. Inspired by his mother’s example of patriotism and commitment, Bryant, Jr. chose to continue the tradition of service by enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1993.

In his role as a Command Financial Analyst at the Air National Guard Readiness Center at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, Bryant, Jr. managed complex financial and logistical operations, by coordinating budgets, defense travel programs, and funding initiatives supporting more than 100,000 Air National Guard members across 88 flying wings and over 200 units throughout the United States and its territories. As the primary command commodity manager, he oversaw the Air National Guard’s $2.8 billion flying hour program and played a key role in developing policy, executing funding for operations and personnel, and defending the Future Years Defense Program to Headquarters Air Force. His exceptional expertise and dedication earned him numerous honors, including the Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Force Achievement Medal, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Oak Leaf Cluster.

Bryant, Jr. met his wife, Anna, at a restaurant, where she was immediately drawn to his sense of humor and charming demeanor. What began as a simple introduction quickly grew into a deep and loving partnership, as the two began building a life together and dreaming of the family they would one day share. One of Anna’s most cherished memories is the birth of their daughter, Arianna, whom Bryant, Jr. lovingly nicknamed “Peanut.” He embraced fatherhood with his whole heart. He never hesitated to take on diaper duty, read bedtime stories, or lift Arianna high into the air for playful “helicopter” rides that filled their home with laughter. Bryant, Jr. took great joy in giving his daughter the world, showering her with toys, affection, and the unwavering love of a devoted father, often tenderly calling her “my princess.” 

Bryant, Jr. was a kindred spirit—compassionate, generous, and always willing to lend a helping hand. He cared deeply for others and lived with a genuine concern for the well-being of those around him. He loved his daughter beyond measure and treasured every moment spent as a devoted family man. His love for his country was unwavering, and he took great pride in his military service. Bryant, Jr. is laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, a place that honors his dedication and sacrifice. Each year, Anna and Arianna visit to celebrate his birthday, keeping his memory alive with love and remembrance. Ariana proudly participates in activities in his name, carrying forward his legacy of service, intelligence, and strength—qualities she so clearly inherited from her father. The values he lived by continue to echo through his family, shaping the future with the same courage and compassion he embodied.

United States Air Force Major Vernon Bryant Jr. is survived by his devoted wife, Anna, and their beautiful daughter, Arianna.
