You go from a wave of emotions of losing a spouse to the everyday struggles of being a single father, being with the kids, just a whole multitude of emotions. To see that a foundation is out there, people who really care, who really are concerned and think about the things that you’re going through. To provide you with a mortgage-free home…my children are grateful. We can never send enough thank yous to the Foundation.

Those who serve and then lay down their lives protecting our freedoms and our safety, the least we can do is eleven dollars a month. To give them that peace of always knowing there’s a home and a sanctuary when life feels like it’s been flipped upside down – because it has. When you lose a parent in the line of duty, to know that you can go home, you can be safe, [and] there’s no risk of losing your home. That’s a peace of mind that I can’t believe you can get for eleven dollars a month.

Thankfully, because of this place, they’re helping us invest in ourselves and give us that stability. Tunnel to Towers is giving second chances to those who are ready and willing to improve and change their lives. If you are willing to work on yourself, they are willing to work with you with no judgement. I’m looking forward, and not looking back, because this is what I have here. I truly believe if it wasn’t for Tunnel to Towers, I wouldn’t be here, period.

Having my mortgage paid off after finding out that it was a service-related death truly just validates what Mike did. … It truly was a validation that there are people who saw Mike’s service, who still see Mike’s service, who still see me and the kids.

Now I have this fully accessible shower that I can roll into… I also have the ability to adjust my thermostat, turn on and off the lights, or lock the doors at night… All the features allow me to continue to do what I need to, and live a quality of life that I thought I’d never have.

It’s a refuge, it’s a place where guys who have suffered can come and breathe and not have to worry for just a little bit. It’s just a safe place.

The least we can do, or people that have the means, is contribute to these incredible people that don’t get any recognition at all. But they’re the real heroes. It’s such a humane thing to do, to take care of the people that have taken care of us. It’s really simple math. This is money well spent and you know exactly where it’s going.

When you lose your person, it’s the worst thing. You can’t imagine life going on any further. To know that no matter what, our home is our sanctuary. We created it after John passed away and we got to choose it. To know that it’s always ours and Noah has a place to always come back to, it’s just a huge blessing. It just gives us security, it gives us peace, it gives us comfort to know that it’s always going to be there for us.

We all have to do our part. There is definitely a role for every one of us to contribute in some sort of way. As I got involved, I was inundated with calls about how people could help and contribute. You do amazing work. Couldn’t find a more worthy cause. And your reputation is beyond impeccable. Everybody knows where the money is going. Every single dollar. God bless you.

There’s a new thing at T2T which is veteran homelessness. I think that is one of the issues and problems that have been ignored over the years because we have so much homelessness. A lot of veterans who serve overseas lose their way when they get out of the service. They’ve lost touch with family, with friends. They’re not getting the help that they need psychologically or physically. [Now] there’s hope for them. I think T2T is the perfect organization to fulfill that hope.
