United States Army Specialist Zachary Hisken tragically lost his life on February 4, 2023, after a courageous seven-year battle with service-connected brain cancer.
Hisken served with distinction as a combat medic in the highly regarded 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 82nd Airborne Division. This elite airborne unit was repeatedly deployed to Afghanistan between 2007 and 2014, where Hisken actively participated in complex counterinsurgency operations and played a crucial role in advising Afghan security forces. His military career was defined by bravery, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his comrades and mission.
Following his honorable discharge, Hisken was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. For seven years, he confronted this disease with remarkable resilience and courage. His determination in the face of such adversity reflected the same strength and fortitude he displayed throughout his military service.
Throughout every trial, Hisken drew immense strength and comfort from his profound bond with his beloved wife, Jessi. She stood devotedly by his side, offering unwavering support, care, and compassion through every stage of his illness. Together, they cultivated a loving and resilient family environment, creating a home filled with warmth, devotion, and joy. Hisken’s love for his children, Micah and Elise, was boundless; he cherished every moment with them and instilled in them a sense of love, laughter, and courage. He loved to tell jokes, bringing smiles and lightheartedness to those around him. Hisken and Jessi’s partnership and family life stand as a powerful testament to the enduring strength of love, teamwork, and commitment.
United States Army Specialist Zachary Hisken is survived by his loving wife, Jessi, and their beautiful children, Micah and Elise.
