United States Airforce Lieutenant Colonel • Line of Duty Death: May 22, 2022

United States Airforce Lieutenant Colonel Briana J. Singleton tragically passed away on May 22, 2022, a battle she faced with unwavering strength and courage.

Born into a family deeply committed to military service, Singleton was surrounded by a legacy of dedication. Her father, uncle, and older brother all chose to enlist in the Marine Corps, while her sister participated in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC). This environment fostered in Singleton a profound understanding of the challenges and rewards of a career in the armed forces. Throughout her life, Lt Col Singleton naturally gravitated toward guiding and supporting others. She was always eager to mentor those pursuing careers in the military, offering advice and encouragement. Her firsthand understanding of the complex realities of military life made her an exceptional resource.

Singleton’s distinguished military career was marked by numerous prestigious awards, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, all recognizing her exceptional dedication, leadership, and service through various achievements and acts of heroism. Her contributions to joint activities were honored with the Joint Service Achievement Medal, while her unit’s collective excellence and her direct impact on organizational success were highlighted by the AF Outstanding Unit Award and the AF Organizational Excellence Award with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, respectively.

While attending a potluck for Company Grade Officers (CGOs), Singleton met her future husband, Joe. The Potluck was hosted at his house, and she had come with a mutual acquaintance, not knowing the evening would change her life. Joe fondly recalled seeing her standing in the doorway at the end of the night as rain began to fall. Noticing her carefully styled hair, he playfully asked if she had just gotten a perm. That simple, lighthearted exchange sparked a connection—one that would spark a connection forever.

Singleton’s legacy lives on through their sons, Jonathan and Sean, and in the lasting mark she left on the Air Force mission. She was a devoted leader, always ensuring her people were cared for and that every regulation was followed with integrity. She gave her whole heart—to her family, her service, and her community. Each year, Joe and their sons honor her birthday by baking her favorite cake, and each son adds a new LEGO flower to a growing bouquet, a tender tribute to her memory and the love she continues to inspire.

United States Airforce Lieutenant Colonel Briana J. Singleton is survived by her loving husband, Joe and their beautiful children, Jonathan and Sean.
