HOME COMPLETED - SEPTEMBER 2025

Born in Ecuador and raised in the South Bronx, NYPD Detective 2nd Grade Eder B. Loor’s story is one of determination, grit, and unwavering commitment to helping others.

After moving to New York City at the age of five, Loor found joy in the simple pleasures of childhood—playing handball, swinging in the park, and tinkering with anything that needed fixing. That early curiosity for how things worked eventually blossomed into a passion for mechanics, especially cars.

Driven by a dream to serve as a New York City Police Officer, Eder chose the military path to fulfill the necessary requirements. In 2003, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served as an aircraft mechanic—merging his love for fixing things with a deep sense of duty. His time in the Air Force, including active duty and later service in the New York Air National Guard, took him across the globe and instilled in him a lifelong love of learning and exploration.

In 2006, Eder joined the NYPD, where he rose through the ranks. Every day on the force brought new challenges and opportunities to make a difference. His work was fueled by a genuine desire to protect and serve, and he found fulfillment in the unpredictability and humanity of the job, but Eder’s journey took a dramatic turn when he was injured in the line of duty during a call involving a mentally ill individual. A stab wound to the left temple left him with lasting neurological damage, affecting his memory and daily life. The injury was life-altering—but not life-defining.

Despite the physical and emotional toll, Loor never gave up. He leaned into his passions—fixing cars in the summer, updating his home in the winter—and found strength in his family and community. Through Tunnel to Towers, Eder’s home is now more accessible and comfortable, and his peace of mind has been restored because the financial burden of a mortgage has been lifted by T2T.

NYPD Detective 2nd Grade Eder B. Loor’s story is not the one he expected, but it’s one he embraces with gratitude. He is thankful for the second chance to live, love, and be present for his children’s milestones. Through his resilience, he hopes to inspire others facing life-changing events to keep going, to find purpose in the struggle, and to never lose hope.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has provided NYPD Detective 2nd Grade Eder B. Loor with a mortgage-free smart home through the Smart Home Program.
