Commack Volunteer Fire Department, New York • Line of Duty Death: January 16, 2024

Commack Volunteer Fire Department Honorary Chief Lou Sollicito of Long Island, New York, lost his battle with 9/11-related occupational cancer on January 16, 2024. He fought a long, courageous battle with a malignant neoplasm of the appendix and gastroesophageal disease for three years.

Sollicito joined the Commack Volunteer Fire Department in 2017. Prior to that, he was a First Lieutenant for the Hicksville Volunteer Fire Department and a volunteer at the North Babylon Fire Department.

Sollicito was born in The Bronx, New York, and was raised in Hicksville, New York. He had two older sisters and was the baby of the family. He had loving parents and enjoyed his childhood. He was inspired to become a first responder because he always tried to help others; it was his calling. He loved seeing the joy on the faces of those he helped. He was part of the fire department training committee and served as a mentor to the newest members of the Commack Fire Department. He also served as their Secretary and Treasurer. Sollicito became an Honorary Chief after he made his last call.

Commack Volunteer Fire Department Honorary Chief Lou Sollicito is survived by his loving wife, Keri, and their four children, Michael, Nikolette, Kristina and Anthony, along with many cherished family members and friends.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage of the Sollicito family home through the Fallen First Responder Home Program.
