United States Army Sergeant William Isiah Stewart Jr. was born in Charleston, South Carolina and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina. His family was very tight-knit and loving, full of quality time with each other and with their dogs. Throughout his childhood, Stewart loved to go fishing and play paintball.
Inspired by his family and friends who served in the military, Stewart enlisted in the US Army on July 6, 2006 and served with the Infantry Unit. He appreciated the stability it provided him, as well as the mindset to better and serve himself. Stewart was well-experienced through traveling the world. While deployed and on a logistics run, Stewart’s unit fell under attack and was hit by an explosion. He sustained extensive injuries, including a stroke which caused a traumatic brain injury, blindness, and partial paralysis on his right side. Stewart spent time in several hospitals and rehabilitation facilities in pursuit of recovery and is still seeing doctors to this day.
Stewart currently resides in Georgia near his family. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, working out, and spending time with his family. Additionally, Stewart gives back to his community by providing local homeless shelters with meals. In the future, he is excited to continue to live life to the fullest and maintain a positive outlook on life. Stewart is eternally grateful to Tunnel to Towers for the support and for giving him the ability to live in a safe and stable home. He would like to thank his mother, sister and brother-in-law for being his main support system throughout his injury. Finally, United States Army Sergeant William Isiah Stewart Jr. would like others to know that no matter what is going on in life there is always something to fight for.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has provided United States Army Sergeant William Isiah Stewart Jr. with a mortgage-free smart home through the Smart Home Program.
