United States Army Sergeant • Line of Duty Death: June 14, 2020
United States Army Sergeant Alex Komen Kandagor passed away on June 14, 2020 from injuries he sustained three years prior while on deployment in Qatar.
Kandagor was born and raised in Kabarnet, Kenya, along with his three younger siblings. He was a great athlete and participated in various sports, including soccer, tennis, and running for the military. He and his wife, Mercy, met while in high school, however, Kandagor had relocated to the United States and they did not reconnect until later in life. The pair were married in 2014 and had a son together.
With a belief in the sanctity of human life and justice for humanity, Kandagor made the informed decision to join the US Army. He officially enlisted on March 11, 2013 and served as a Logistics Officer before serving as a Sergeant. He consistently solved issues that arose, which made him a leader and good mentor. His goals with serving included being an adequate mentor for his peers and using his athletic gifts for the benefits of others and the military. Throughout his honorable career, Kandagor was awarded with numerous awards and commendations, including the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal, among many others. In 2017, while on active duty in Qatar, Kandagor experienced a traumatic brain injury. Although he made it home, he passed away from his injuries three years later.
Currently, Mercy resides in Florida with her son, Adrian. She loves to travel, read, cook, paint and play video games with Adrian. She is also an active member of her church and is involved with Gold Star foundations. In the future, Mercy is excited to continue to watch her son grow, make memories with him and see what the future holds for him. She is eternally grateful to Tunnel to Towers for lifting the burden of her mortgage from her shoulders. Finally, Mercy would like others to know that her husband was a great husband, father, friend and leader. He is severely missed.
United States Army Sergeant Alex Komen Kandagor is survived by his loving wife, Mercy, and his son, Adrian.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage of the Kandagor family home through the Gold Star Family Home Program.
