United States Army Colonel • Line of Duty Death: December 19, 2023
United States Army Colonel Mark Christopher Glenn passed away on December 19, 2023 due to service-related cancer.
Glenn was born in Abington, Massachusetts, and raised in Peabody, Massachusetts for most of his childhood. Later in life, he and his wife, Jessica, met and began their relationship. They eventually married and had three beautiful daughters together.
Inspired by his father, a US Army veteran, Glenn enlisted in the US Army Reserves Combat Support Company 3rd Battalion Infantry shortly after his 17th birthday. After completing boot camp in Fort Benning, Georgia in 1988, he spent nine years as an enlisted soldier before receiving his commission as an officer in the Massachusetts Army National Guard as a 2nd Lieutenant for the Bravo Battery 1st Battalion 101st Field Artillery in 1998. He was later deployed to Iraq in 2004 and became a full-time AGR officer for the Massachusetts Army National Guard prior to being deployed to Afghanistan in 2010. His 3rd deployment was to the Middle East, spending time in Qatar, Afghanistan and Iraq, and he returned in March 2022. Throughout his prestigious career, Glenn received numerous awards, including three Bronze Stars for each of his three deployments. He was also eligible for the nomination of a Legion of Merit in recognition for his actions and leadership during his most recent deployment, however, he declined the opportunity because he wanted a third Bronze Star so he could have one for each of his daughters, who were patiently awaiting his return home from deployment. Described as ethical, empathetic, generous, intelligent, kind, and funny, Glenn adored everything about his career, serving his country, and mentoring and assisting others. After returning home from his last deployment, Glenn was diagnosed with an aggressive non-genetic colon cancer. After two rounds of chemotherapy and five months of remission, the disease unfortunately spread, preventing him from breathing on his own. After a 17-month battle, Glenn passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.
Tunnel to Towers is providing Jessica and her daughters, Erin, Julia, and Mia, with the gift of paying off the mortgage of their family home, which the Glenn family is eternally grateful for. The donation has allowed Jessica to maintain working as a nurse in a per diem capacity, allowing her the flexibility to spend more time with her daughters. The Glenn family can now focus on healing after the passing of their loved one.
United States Army Colonel Mark Christopher Glenn is survived by his wife, Jessica, his three daughters, Erin, Julia, and Mia, his mother, Judy, his three sisters, Michele, Kerry, and Julie, his mother and father-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and military brothers. He was joined in Heaven by his father, Lester, just one month after his passing.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage of the Glenn family home through the Gold Star Family Home Program.
