United States Department of Homeland Security • Line of Duty Death: June 1, 2022

Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Peter Christopher Egan passed away on June 1, 2022 due to complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 while in the line of duty.

Egan was born in New York City and raised in Cold Spring, New York, where his family relocated when he was two years old. The youngest of four, Egan learned from his older siblings, and was incredibly observant. Throughout his childhood and adult life, he was an avid fan of the New York Giants, Yankees, Knicks and Rangers. He loved playing baseball, basketball, and football, and was an extremely talented athlete. Egan was raised with traditional Irish Catholic values, and attended Our Lady of Lourdes High School, from which he graduated in 1990, and was later inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame for his stellar athletic career. He later received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Manhattan College in 1994, where he received a scholarship and pitched for the Jaspers. Eventually, Egan met his future wife, Sarah, through her cousin, who’s husband was incidentally Egan’s college roommate. After sharing an instant connection, the pair were married in April of 2006.

Egan was inspired to become a first responder by his father’s career with the FDNY, as the camaraderie among his father and his fellow firefighters made a lasting impression on him. Egan’s law enforcement career began in 1996 when he joined the United States Capitol Police, later becoming a member of the Dignitary Protection Program, where he spent many years on the detail of Representative Tom DeLay. On September 11, 2001, Egan played a critical role in ensuring the safe evacuation of the Congressional leadership during a time when very little was known about additional attacks on America. In 2004, he became a Special Agent with Homeland Security Investigations, joining the El Dorado Task Force. Egan served with the United States Department of Homeland Security-Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Office of Investigations for 18 years. In his free time, he adored coaching his sons’ baseball teams and spending quality time with his family.

Currently, Sarah spends most of her time supporting her sons and their baseball teams as a proud sponsor of the Shrub Oak Athletic Club, where her sons have been playing sports since 2016. She is excited to continue to watch her sons grow into well-rounded young men and follow their dreams. She is eternally grateful for the relief that Tunnel to Towers has provided her in the form of paying off her mortgage on the home she shared with Egan. Since the passing of their family’s patriarch, Sarah finds great comfort in knowing that their house will forever remain the place they call home. Sarah would like others to know that Egan was “one of the good guys,” and he would do anything for his friends, family, or anyone in need. He is remembered for his loyalty, witty sense of humor and sarcasm, and protective nature.

Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Peter Christopher Egan is survived by his wife, Sarah, his sons, Sean and Ryan, his father, Charles, and his siblings, Charles, Patrick and Kathleen.
