El Dorado Deputy Sheriff, California
Line of Duty Death: October 23, 2019
El Dorado Deputy Sheriff Brian Ishmael, 37, was fatally shot while responding to a call reporting a larceny in rural Somerset during a ride-along with an off-duty San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Deputy.
El Dorado County Sheriff John D’Agostini said Ishmael had a positive outlook. “Brian worked and lived in this community. He was easy to talk to, kind and always positive. He never had a bad day, was a loving father and husband and leaves behind his wife and three children.”
Governor Newsom issued a statement, stating, “Jennifer and I were terribly saddened to learn that Deputy Ishmael was shot and killed this morning while courageously serving and protecting the people of El Dorado County. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones, friends, and colleagues during this painful time.”
The last time an El Dorado County sheriff’s deputy died in the line of duty was in 1991.
Ishmael was a four-year veteran of the sheriff’s office and had worked two years for the Placerville Police Department.
He is survived by his wife, Katie, and three children, Prudence, Zoe and Cash.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid off the mortgage on the Ishmael family’s home.
