Officer Troy Jacobson, 38, was on patrol when he experienced a medical emergency on December 10, 2020. His vehicle crashed, taking his life.
Officer Jacobson had served with the Momence Police Department full-time since August 2020.
He previously spent 6.5 years working for the Kankakee, Illinois Police Department as a patrolman and detective
Officer Jacobson is survived by his wife, Melany, and their children, Keagan, Nole and Rowan.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid off the family’s mortgage in July 2021 in honor of Independence Day.
“Having our home paid off means so much more than a financial contribution to our family. It means total ownership of the home my husband and I brought our children home to. It means that I can spend more time with my children instead of crunching numbers. It means our autistic daughter gets more time with a mother who is less burdened, and additional financial freedom to explore treatment options for her. Having our home paid off on Independence Day is especially significant because my husband Troy was such an advocate for freedom, lifting people up, integrity, hope, and peace. All of the pillars of being a proud American were exemplified by him everyday; in and out of uniform. It is such an honor for our family to be gifted this tremendous gift on such a momentous day. We look forward to working with the Foundation for many years to come,” saif Melany.
