Raleigh Police Department, North Carolina ● Line of Duty Death: October 13, 2022
On October 13th, 2022, Officer Gabriel Torres was on his way to work when he became involved in a mass shooting situation in his own neighborhood. Torres was shot inside his car multiple times, sustaining fatal gunshot wounds.
Torres was born in Queens, New York and grew up in Jackson, New Jersey where he was the middle child of three. He spent a lot of his childhood playing video games, watching movies, and relaxing at home with his beloved family dogs, Sandy and Ruby.
Prior to Officer Torres’ career with the Raleigh Police Department, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in November of 2016 and served until February of 2021. During his service in the Marines, Torres meritoriously earned the rank of Sergeant. Torres began working with the Raleigh Police Department in March of 2021 where he was eager to learn and help others in any way he could. In his short time on the police force, he was given a letter of commendation for an arrest.
Torres is remembered for his constant selflessness and desire to help others. He sought out a career in the military and, eventually, in law enforcement to be of service to others and to make himself and his family proud of his accomplishments. His career in the military and law enforcement enabled him to make a tangible difference in the world, most notably his humanitarian efforts in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria made landfall in September 2017.
Officer Gabriel Torres is survived by his wife, Jasmin, and their daughter, Layla.
