Tunnel to Towers to Provide Family of Slain NYPD Detective With Mortgage-Free Home

The widow of NYPD Detective Jason Rivera announced the birth of ‘miracle’ son

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced it will be paying off the mortgage on the home for the widow and newborn son of slain NYPD Detective Jason Rivera.

On January 21, 2022, Detective Jason Rivera and his partner Detective Wilbert Mora were fatally shot after they responded to a domestic disturbance in Harlem.

During the memorial mass marking the 1st anniversary of his death, Detective Rivera’s wife, Dominique Luzuriaga Rivera, announced she was expecting their baby using his sperm that was collected after her husband’s death.

“Through sorrow and pain, there can also be a rebirth…I am blessed to say that Jason and I will be expecting our miracle this spring,” said Dominique.

This week Dominique formally announced the arrival of her ‘miracle’ son with a social media post reading, “A baby fills a place in your heart you never knew was empty. Meet my little prince Wesley.”

Tunnel to Towers will honor Detective Rivera’s memory by ensuring Dominique and Wesley always have a place to call home.

“The birth of this child is truly a miracle, a piece of Jason reborn into this world. Wesley was robbed of the opportunity to know his father, but I hope this forever home will always be filled with stories about Jason,” said Frank Siller Chairman and CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

In 2014, NYPD Detectives Wenjian Liu and his partner Rafael Ramos were shot and killed in the line of duty. Liu’s wife, Pei Xia, used sperm collected after her husband’s death to conceive their child and was able to give birth to her daughter, Angelina, two years after she lost her husband.

The Liu and Ramos families were the first to receive mortgage-free homes which would mark the creation of the Tunnel to Towers’ Fallen First Responder Home Program. This home program has since provided mortgage-free homes for hundreds of Fallen First Responder families across the country.
